Surrey Road League

Team Tadworth before the Elmbridge 10K race, July 2023
Smiling before the Elmbridge 10K, July 2023

All affiliated clubs in Surrey compete in this league – there is no promotion or relegation, just the honour of winning or at least beating the local clubs! There are separate leagues for men and women and the league consists of 8 races ranging from 7k to Half Marathon.

The Surrey Road League is a series of road races in which the first 4 finishing men or first 3 finishing women make up the scoring team.  Scores are calculated based on their finishing positions and clubs will be awarded points for the league based on performance in relation to the other teams.  The scoring rules are explained in more detail on the Surrey Road League website.

Tadworth have had some success over the years; in 2012, the men won the whole league and we have had several members win the individual age group categories.  However in more recent times we have struggled to reach the same heights and attendance at some races has been low.  As a result TAC will incentivise participation in 2023. Any runner who runs at least 4 road league races will be eligible for a £5 per race reimbursement. We are aiming for the men’s and ladies’ teams to finish in the top 10 overall as well as having at least 2 runners finishing in the top 5 for their age category.  We are also aiming for all runners to have fun!

The races are:

As you can see, most of the races are open for entries already. Unlike the Cross Country races, individuals need to sign up for the races themselves on the relevant race website. Make sure that you list Tadworth in the club section to make sure you register for the league.

We will be reviving the Summer Madness after the Elmore 7 race. After finishing the race, everyone goes home to get changed before meeting up again to go on a pub crawl around Walton on the Hill. There will be more details closer to the time.  If anyone has any questions, please contact either Simon Booth or Laura Palmer.
