Note for Mark, XC Captain  – Purging the Shame of Last Season

My first job is to purge the shame of last season – when we could have been getting promoted to Div 2 but instead got relegated to Div 4 to run against the Oddballs. The club has rarely known such shame since Dave Williamson dropped out of the inaugural 1 mile track race as he couldn’t stay with Dave Freeman.

After our relegation last season Paul, the previous captain, was forced to resign and after a long search which involved a lot of candidates hiding under tables, I have now been selected by the great and the good of the club to try to get us running again with some respectability.

Paul though hasn’t entirely stepped down as he will be doing the declarations (as a kind of penance) and he may come back again next year as captain (to get us relegated again). I have the bonus of it being impossible for us to get relegated this season.

We are good enough to get promoted – if we all get fit and turn up. Honest.

They’re off! Surrey League Cross Country race at Roundshaw Downs starts
